From a hairdresser's chair to the canvas
JAN spent years building a career in hairdressing — working with colour and personal expression every day, long before he called himself a painter. In 2018 he returned to the canvas, training under artist Lucas De Witt, and hasn't stopped since.
Working primarily in oil, JAN builds every piece slowly through layers of colour and texture, music playing in the studio while mood and rhythm guide the brush. Influenced by Van Gogh, Monet, Dalí, and contemporary South African painters, his work aims to capture more than an image — a sense of presence, atmosphere and beauty.
