Frequently Asked Questions

How does buying a painting work, since there's no cart or checkout?

Browse the available paintings and find the one you want. Click "Enquire About This Piece" (or use the general enquiry form) with the piece name, and JAN will reply directly by email or WhatsApp to confirm availability and arrange payment. There's no online checkout — every sale is handled personally.

How do I pay?

Payment is by EFT (direct bank transfer) once you've confirmed the piece with JAN. He'll send banking details directly. The painting ships once payment reflects in the account.

How is my painting shipped, and how long does it take?

Within South Africa, paintings are shipped via courier (mostly Dawn Wing), with signature confirmation required and no P.O. Box deliveries. Standard delivery takes 3–5 business days depending on location; Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town typically cost R50–R150, with remote areas priced proportionally higher. Order processing begins once payment reflects — orders placed after 1pm, or over a weekend/public holiday, begin processing the next business day. International shipping is available — get in touch for a quote to your location.

What if my painting arrives damaged?

Inspect your piece as soon as it arrives and contact JAN immediately if it's defective, damaged, or not what you ordered — reach out at wynandnee@gmail.com.

Can I return a piece?

Yes — you have 30 days after receiving your item to request a return, provided it's in its original condition and packaging with proof of purchase. Contact wynandnee@gmail.com first; items sent back without prior approval aren't accepted. Once approved, a return shipping label and instructions are provided, and refunds go back to your original payment method.

Is every piece an original?

Yes. Every painting is hand-painted and one-of-a-kind, and ships with a signed Certificate of Authenticity.

Can I commission a custom piece?

Yes — JAN takes on bespoke commissions tailored to your space, colour palette or emotional theme. Use the enquiry form or WhatsApp to start the conversation.

How long will an oil painting last?

Oil paintings are remarkably durable — well cared for, they can last for generations. Keep the piece out of direct sunlight and excessive humidity, and dust the frame and surface gently from time to time. Many collectors' paintings become part of their family's story, passed on over the years.

Is JAN's work expressionist or impressionist?

Expressionist. JAN's paintings prioritise emotion, colour and instinct over realistic representation — built up in layers of bold, expressive brushwork rather than capturing light and atmosphere in the impressionist tradition.
